In celebration of AAPI month, we chatted with Chinese-Vietnamese beauty & fashion icon, Francis Lola.

1. Tell us about yourself
Francis: Hey guys, I’m Francis Lola. I am here with the brand Nana Jacqueline and I'm super excited to be featured for AAPI month. I am Chinese-Vietnamese . I was born and raised in LA and I started my career in fashion merchandising and started blogging in 2014. Now, I have been doing that ever since.
2. How has your heritage or culture shaped the person you are today?
Francis: I think it has kind of humbled me. I come from very humble beginnings and my family was not very well off. They actually immigrated here from Vietnam and I really appreciate that I got to experience so much culture growing up and I am really proud to be Asian. I love supporting small businesses that are Asian-owned. I really love supporting Asian-owned brands so I am really excited to be supporting Nana Jacqueline. BUY, BUY, BUY. How has your heritage or culture shaped the person you are today?

Has it inspired your work?
Francis: 100%. One of my passions is supporting small businesses. My dad owned a small business growing up. He no longer has it now, but I just love supporting small businesses– especially if they’re Asian-founded.
Does your family have any traditions that are especially important to you?
Francis: I don’t know if this really counts as a tradition but my mom growing up always made sure we all had to sit together at dinner to just converse and eat together. That’s something I loved growing up. Everyone is so busy during the day and then at the end of that day, for dinner, everyone sits at the table and we all just spend an hour together, and I think that’s what was really important to me growing up. So I really want to pass that tradition to my future family.
Do you have an Asian American personal role model or inspiration?
Francis: I think my sisters. I love them dearly. My older sister is such a huge inspiration for me, she is super hard-working and super independent and really strong. I really aspire to be like her a lot.
What does AAPI Heritage Month mean to you?
Francis: I feel like its weird because I feel like its all year-round for me. I mean, being Asian, its something I feel like is something we should be celebrating all the time. Especially after the recent attacks on Asian people. It’s rough to witness and I think its great that we have this month but for me, I feel like its all year-round.
Do you have any particular fashion icons?
Francis: I mean, I love Hailey Bieber’s style. I love how she dresses effortlessly cool and laid back. Always wearing blazers, baggy jeans and I think that’s so cute.
What clothing item/statement piece makes you feel the most confident?
Francis: That’s so hard. A good pair of shoes. I love a good pair of shoes. Lately, I love pairing dresses with oversized blazers– that’s super cool and super feminine.
How has living in LA impacted your style?
Francis: Definitely, I feel like I am an LA girl at heart. I’ve lived here my entire life and I don’t think I’ll ever leave. But I do feel like I always had a laid back, casual style mixed into anything I’m into.
